Among the resolutions of ‘Take bath’, ‘Learn people better’, ‘Dont get lonesome’, Woody Guthrie penned ‘Keep hoping machine running’.

Claire came across Woody Guthrie’s list while perusing brainpickings.org in a state of the sort of openness birthed only by desperation. Nick had bought a chorus pedal, darkening and darkening the textures and moods of his guitar. The next day in their rehearsal space with Will the overhead lights were turned off, the energy of the room a bit low and dejected, the chorus pedal moved to the bass and the bassline, soon to be the theme of the song, came into the room. Claire was thinking of Woody Guthrie, hoping for relief from a worrying head, Nick was resting in a shadow of sound, and Will, eyes closed and meticulous as ever punctuating rhythm into the emerging bed of sound.
